Course Overview

The Art Club Workshops for High School students are designed to enhance and extend students’ technical, conceptual, and intellectual skills under the direction of experienced artists, through intensive practical study in the disciplines offered at NAS as well as engaging in an experience of NAS studios and campus. Expanded Drawing will focus on skills development as well as pushing the boundaries of what drawing can be. Students will explore collaborative workshops, mixed media exercises, studio-based studies, portraiture and more.

Lecturer Profile

Luke Thurgate is an artist and educator working in Warrane (Sydney). He teaches in the BFA program at the National Art School where he is a Master of Fine Art alumni in Drawing. Luke has previously worked in public programming and education roles at Adelaide Central School of Art, Art Gallery of South Australia, and Newcastle Art Gallery. Luke has had numerous solo and group exhibitions and has recently been a finalist in the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, the Dobell Drawing Prize #21 and #23 and the Tom Bass Prize for Figurative Sculpture. Luke is represented in NSW by .M Contemporary.

Stephanie Eather is an artist and educator working in Warrane (Sydney) and originating from Naarm (Melbourne). She is about to finish her Master of Fine Art in Drawing at NAS and is passionate about supporting the next generaiton of young creatives. Stephanie has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia and has been selected for various prizes including the Dobell Drawing Prize #21 and #22. She won the Life Abstracted Prize at Cambridge Studio Gallery, Collingwood in 2017. Stephanie is represented by Nanda Hobbs.
