Course Overview

Explore advanced processes of screenprinting focusing on photographic images, halftones and multi-layered colour applications. Learn to use Photoshop to prepare images for print, through colour separations, halftones, and CMYK printing. Janet Parker-Smith will guide students to experiment with process, colour transparency, and editions.

Students will have the opportunity to print on paper and textiles, including fabrics and t-shirts while learning the skill of precise colour mixing and registration. Whether you're looking to refine your skills in screenprinting or push the boundaries of your artistic practice, this course will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to create high-quality screenprints.

* NAS Short Courses are open to students of ages 16 years and over. The NAS Art Club is open to students from ages 15 years and over.

Lecturer Profile

Janet Parker-Smith is a Sydney-based artist whose practice incorporates print media, small sculptural forms, collage and altered books. She has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for over 25 years. Janet has had several solo exhibitions and selected as a finalist in many art award exhibitions. Her work is collected by the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Victoria and numerous other public and private collections.
Janet works as a sessional teacher at the National Art School and Sydney College of the Arts, as well as in Public Programs at NAS. She also works as an Arts Worker for councils across Sydney on different art projects and programs. Janet has been supported and represented by Van Rensberg Galleries in Hong Kong, May Space and M. Contemporary in Sydney.

Art Materials

Students must supply their own art materials, please refer to the list below.

  • Pencil, ruler, notebook/sketchbook
  • Apron and gloves
  • Roll of masking tape
  • 2 x sheets of Stonehenge paper (56 x 76cm) white or off white.
  • 3 x sheets of cartridge paper for proofing
  • Photos and images of own choice
  • Other materials if you want, e.g fabric, other papers for printing onto
  • Covered footwear is essential in all studios on campus.
