Course Overview

An exciting new workshop designed for entry-level students to nurture creativity through various aspects of drawing, encouraging skills development and exploration in a supportive, playful, studio environment.
Learn the basics of drawing line, shape and form, using charcoal, graphite, ink and pastels; practice observational and rendering techniques through still life studies; explore gestural drawing, proportions and anatomy of the human body; Discover compositional techniques and perspective by drawing the beautiful NAS buildings, capturing light, shadow and atmosphere.

Please note there will be no class on 7 September due to NAS Open Day.

*NAS Short Courses are open to students of ages 16 years and over. The NAS Art Club is open to students from ages 15 years and over.

*Drawing and painting short courses may be held in upstairs studios. If access to stairs is not suitable, please contact NAS Short Courses Administration at short.courses@nas.edu.au

Lecturer Profile

Chrystal Rimmer is a multidisciplinary artist working across Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. Graduating from the National Art School in 2019 with Master’s Degree in Fine Arts, Chrystal was granted the prestigious Lift Off Award launching her international career including residencies in Scotland and The Netherlands. Chrystal's work is exhibited both nationally and internationally and is represented in public and private collections alike. Chrystal has over a decade of experience as an arts educator in various institutions as well as community engagement projects with a specialised interest in the cross section of tradition and innovation.

Art Materials

Students must supply their own art materials, please refer to the list below.

• A4 sketchbook
• Set of graphite pencils from 2B to 8B
• 1 charcoal pencil
• Pencil sharpener or cutting blade
• Pencil eraser
• 2 bulldog clips
• 1 stick of willow charcoal
• 1 pad of A2 cartridge paper

Other materials (not required for first class)
• 1 sheet of grey Canson paper
• 2 sheets of brown Craft paper (around 280gsm)
• 1 white pastel pencil or white charcoal pencil

Enclosed footwear is essential.
