Course Overview

Learn the exciting art of screenprinting and how to turn photos, texts and illustrations into beautiful hand-crafted prints.

This introductory workshop introduces you to the principles of screenprinting, including preparing stencils, transferring images onto acetate, coating and exposing screens, printing on fine art paper and registration techniques.

Spend two full days in the NAS printmaking studios with artist Janet Parker-Smith, who gives demonstrations and expert guidance in basic screenprinting methodologies.

NAS supplies all inks and mediums, and you bring printing papers and a selection of personal images to inspire your artworks and complete an edition of single colour screenprints. This course is designed for newcomers with little or no previous screenprinting experience.

*NAS Short Courses are open to students of ages 16 years and over. The NAS Art Club is open to students from ages 15 years and over.

Lecturer Profile

Janet Parker-Smith is a Sydney-based artist whose practice incorporates print media, small sculptural forms, collage and altered books. She has been exhibiting nationally and internationally for over 25 years. Janet has had several solo exhibitions and selected as a finalist in many art award exhibitions. Her work is collected by the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Victoria and numerous other public and private collections.
Janet works as a sessional teacher at the National Art School and Sydney College of the Arts, as well as in Public Programs at NAS. She also works as an Arts Worker for councils across Sydney on different art projects and programs. Janet has been supported and represented by Van Rensberg Galleries in Hong Kong, May Space and M. Contemporary in Sydney.

Art Materials

Students must supply their own art materials, please refer to the list below.

  • 5 sheets of cartridge paper (A2 size)
  • 2 sheets of stonehenge paper, off white or white (56 x 76cm)
  • Roll of masking tape
  • Images, photos, drawings to be used in screenprints

Enclosed footwear is essential.
